Dagala Botanical Trek 15 days trekking Season: May/June and Sept/Oct.
Dagala mountain range divides two prominent valleys of Thimphu and Wangdi. The altitude of the plateau is around 4000 meters. It has many lakes of different sizes and in most lakes one can find trout fish, alpine flowers, rhododendrons, different species of pheasants, musk deer are also found in abundance. The plateau is also a grazing ground for yaks in summer. The best period of trekking is May/June and Sept/Oct.
» Itinerary Details:
Day 01 Arrival Paro. O/n.
Day 02 Sightseeing of Paro. O/n.
Day 03 Drive to Thimphu. O/n.
Day 04 Sightseeing in Thimphu. O/n.
Day 05 Drive to Simtokha and trek to Talekha for 4 hours. Camp near Talekha Lhakhang.
Day 06 Ascend to jezela alt. 4000 m. & descend to Japhuna alt. 3800 m., camp (5/6 hours).
Day 07 Trek through rhododendron forests and small lakes and camp at Jadhuna alt. 4100m. (4 hours).
Day 08 Ascend to Jomigue pass 4460 mt. and descend to Labatma. Camp by Yumtsa (4 hours).
Day 09 Day excursions to Hetso-Hentso lake, Jmatso and Relitso lakes.
Day 10 Day excursion to Jamo peak 5050 mt. and return to camp.
Day 11 Day rest.
Day 12 After crossing Pagalaptsa pass 4170 mt. descend through rhododendron and thick oak forest to Genekha for camp (6/7hours).
Day 13 Descend to Chakilo for 2 hours and drive to Paro. O/n.
Day 14 Day trip to Tiger Nest (Takstang Monastery).
Day 15 Departure from Paro.
Climate (General): Days are normally warm. Nights can at times be cold and in winter even below the freezing point. Monsoons shower in summer (heaviest July & August) and sometimes even in spring and autumn.
What to Bring:
Strong and comfortable trekking boots, sunglasses, a lot of spare vests and socks, headgear raincoat & warm clothing for the evenings.
Recommendations:
Moderate fitness is required. Few weeks training is advised.
